Noise

Noise. PodcasterProblems. TeacherProblems. PreacherProblems. CommunicationProblems.

“Noise interferes with communication.”

That’s how I began an article explaining four types of noise that can affect podcasters. But this goes far beyond podcasting. Far beyond technical.

These types of noise disrupt communication in person, online, or through a medium, such as video or audio.

Noise can affect teaching too. In fact, any message you want to convey must clear these hurdles if you want that message to be understood.

There have been many models and diagrams of communication throughout the years, but here it is in its simplest form: You speak. The listener listens. The listener speaks. You listen. However, missing from that simple description of communication is what we call noise. Noise is anything that interferes with communication.

About Jason E. Norris

I love exploring ideas. Any idea! But usually I stick with ideas around communication, education, faith, and storytelling.

One of my biggest interests right now is instructional design. I'm learning all about it while developing my concept of OnTheGo Learning. That’s a specific approach to education that applies principles of learning and communication to teach and train via mobile devices.
